How to browse and download products using Data Explorer on CopPhil

In this article, you will learn how to browse and download products using Data Explorer.

Prerequisites

No. 1 Access to Data Explorer

Data Explorer used in this article is available here: https://explore.infra.copphil.philsa.gov.ph/search

You don’t need to be logged in to search for products.

However, you need to be logged in if you want to be able to download products.

If needed, refer to this article:

How to register and login to Data Explorer on CopPhil cloud

No. 2 Submitted search query

Your search query must already be entered and submitted in the search panel. See How to search for products using Data Explorer on CopPhil

No. 3 Search results limited by Area of Interest (AOI)

You can further limit your search results by specifying an Area of Interest (AOI). With AOI, only the results that intersect with the provided area will be displayed. See How to register and login to Data Explorer on CopPhil cloud

No. 4 Overview of available satellite instrumentation and capabilities

Page EO Data Collection shows information about the following satellites: Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-5p and Sentinel-6.

In this article, we shall use only Sentinel-2:

What We Are Going To Cover

  • Browsing search results

  • Downloading products

  • Downloading a single product

  • Downloading multiple products

Browsing search results

We assume here that you’ve already followed Prerequisites No. 2 and/or No. 3 and that you are already seeing your list of search results.

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-31_copphil.png

To browse products from a particular mission, click Browse products within section corresponding to your chosen mission. If only one mission is checked, like here it would be Sentinel-2, only the relevant products would appear.

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-32_copphil.png

The results should appear:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-33_copphil.png

Alternatively, you can use the Products tab to view results from all missions:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-34_copphil.png ../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-35_copphil.png

To view information about one of the results, click Product details next to it:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-36_copphil.png ../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-37_copphil.png

Apart from information such as product size or identifier, you should also see the polygon which indicates the geographical area of that product. In the example above, this area can be found in the right part of the screenshot, east of Algeciras.

Downloading products

You must be logged in to download products.

Downloading a single product

View Product details for a product you want to download. Click Download below that detailed description:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-38_copphil.png

The process of downloading should begin - you should see the progress bar:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-71_copphil.png

During this process, the file will not appear on the list of your downloaded files and in the place to which your browser safes them.

Only once the file is fully downloaded, Data Explorer will provide it to your browser as a downloaded file:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-72_copphil.png

Downloading multiple products

When browsing search results, check the checkbox next to every product you want to download:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-39_copphil.png

Click Download below these checkboxes:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-40_copphil.png

The products should now be downloaded - one after another:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-73_copphil.png

Once one of these files has been downloaded:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-74_copphil.png

it should appear on the list of downloaded files of your Internet browser (in this example, we are using Firefox):

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-75_copphil.png

In the end, all files should be downloaded:

../_images/browse-download-data-explorer-76_copphil.png

and they should be visible on the list of downloaded files of your Internet browser:

What To Do Next

Here is a practical example of downloading targeted data for Manila and using Data Explorer, see article Use CopPhil Data Explorer to find all Sentinel-3 Land Surface Temperature products over Manila in January 2024

For a similar example, but

  • executing Python code from

  • JupyterLab on CopPhil site and using

  • OData API calls
